I've Camped all my life,
but recently I've had need for a new adventure. At first, I wasn't sure what
that was going to be, I recently discovered a love for the idea of tent
camping, and I've done a tone of research of the last couple of weeks. Reading
blogs, books, websites, and watching videos. So, I thought I might refine my findings
into one place, making it easier for anyone else just starting out or maybe
someone just looking for some ideas.
I am organizing the page
by categories and alphabetically. Some topics or sub topics maybe be blank in
information until a later date.
Camping Hacks
Hacks are pretty much generally applicable to all
styles, but I will specify if a hack is for a certain style.
General Camping
know-how
Fire starting:
Generally,
when you are starting a fire you need a few things to get started. Kindling, flame,
and something to assist the fire-starting process (usually know as fire
starter)
A
few ways of lighting a fire are: Matches, lighter, and a Magnesium striker.
§ Lighter: I find these are unreliable
and often a pain to use.
§ Magnesium striker: During my research I noticed
no one really mentioned theses, which is a shame because it is and amazing
tool. It is compact, water proof, and you’ll probably never use it all. Also wind
resistant. However, the striking technique requires some practice. The part is it
cost about 6 dollars. (THIS IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR MATCHES) You should always
have matches, especially to light things like candles or stoves.
§ Matches: They come in several
styles, regular, waterproof, any surface striking, and sizes varying from about
2” to 12”. They can basically be used to light anything.
A few types of fire
starters are: liquid fire starter, fire starter sticks, or DIY fire starters.
§ DIY: egg carton or paper tube with dryer lint and old candle wax. Just don't use them in any closed botton grill or fire ring the wax may cause damage.
§ Fire starter sticks: These usually come in like brick and are meant to be broken apart and used as needed.
§ Liquid fire starter: lighter fluid, often used with charcoal grilling, is perfect for any stuborn kindling.
All of these work great. Pinecones also make amazing firestarers if you're camping in an area that has them.

Locations to Camping
The east coast has the best variety of places to go camping in the country. We have the beaches, the mountains, and everything in between. Only a few hours of driving and you can be at any desired location climate. I'm not says that there aren't other great places in the US, just that we have it pretty good.

Styles of Camping
Each style of camping offers something a little differnt. Theres a little something for everyone. One of the best things about camping in my opinion is the vast diversity it offers. There are no real rules to it other than the golden rule (LEAVE NO TRACE), but besides that its pretty much what ever you want to make it. You can go as primitive or as glamorous as you want.
